Polar Dip
Every year on the Saturday before the winter solstice the fine folks of Sitka engage in a wonderful tradition called the Polar Dip. Hundreds of Sitkans come out to the boat ramp at UAS shed all their winter clothes (down to their bathing suits) and run down the boat ramp into the 40 degree water. This year it was an exceptional balmy 28 degrees in the sun, (the water was still a tepid 40). There were two psychologists on sight to sign certificates of insanity for anyone who completes the dip...you have to go in at least chest deep.
I was the designated video person and dry towel holder, self appointed I might add. We had two special participants to video and snap pictures of, Maddy our exchange student from Italy and Butters, our new dog. They both received their certificates, but I could have told you they deserved them even before the dip.)
